Description |
Clock. An ornate mantel clock consisting of four sides in brass and glass with a hanging mechanism inside. The squared base has added feet soldered on to each corner. The feet are cloven hooves standing on a round disk, that extend upwards and around to the front, with a knob on the top. The columnar sides have fluted brackets at the top, in a scrolled leaf design. The top of the clock has a plinth with an added decoration of an urn, torches and roses. The footed urn has four scrolled handles going from the top to the base. The lid of the urn is formed to ressemble a flame. Two different torches and two roses on stems are under the urn. The clock mechanism is suspended from the underside of the lid. The mechanism has gears and a clock dial with a squared pendulum at the back. The clock dial has an outer ring with Arabic numbers in increments of 5 (0 to 60) around the face. These numbers are red with black slashes to highlight the minutes. The inner ring has Roman Numerals representing the hour hand. The hour hand is shaped like a clover leaf while the minute hand is longer and straighter. |
