Description |
Doily. A square doily, possibly battenburg or modern point lace, with tape points of the pattern extending beyond others at the corners. Pattern resembles poinsettia petals, where the tape forms curves and sharp corners emphasized by needle lace stitches mostly versions of buttonhole stitch forming circles and dainty openwork fillings. It is possible that the tapes are machine made, with filling by hand, representative of modern point lace, smaller area in centre of fine linen 9.5 cm x 9.5 cm wide with a cut out pattern of varied needle lace stitches. |
