Description |
Porcelain Basket. A small biscuit porcelain basket with pastel-painted cherub, bud-shaped basket, leaves and flowers. The unglazed porcelain has a rougher texture and a matte look. The basket has a flat white base and interior, while the outer section is painted. The basket is formed as a large bud-like flower with wide beige/pale orange-brown petals. A vine-like stem with little projecting leaflets extend along it. Small lines of gold beading decorate the vine. On one side is a thick stem with wide leaves and a poppy. The bottom of the stem serves as a support for the basket. A small yellow rose with leaves rests on top of the poppy. The poppy is pink-mauve with a pale green centre and black stamens. The centre of the flower is decorated with gold beading. Two thick leaves curve outwards from the basket and are also decorated with gold beading. A small cherub rests against the basket with its right side leaning on the vine handle. The cherub is beige-pink with pale brown hair and a pale blue drapery at the waist. The drapery is decorated with randomly-placed gold beading. The face has eyebrows, eyes, cheeks and mouth painted on. The inside of the basket and cherub have small holes, the result of firing. |
