Description |
Hall Bench. A hall tree-bench made in the Eastlake style and functional as a stand to receive hats, coats and dripping umbrellas. The mirrors served as a last minute check of appearance for guests. The bench has a lift-top seat and a large mirror centered above it. To either side are smaller mirrors with a cast coat hook placed at each corner. An inlaid leather tile with gold painted decoration is placed above and below each side mirror. The side sections have stands at floor level with gold-painted ceramic pans to hold dripping water. One of the metal hooks attached to the side remains. This hook would have supported umbrella or cane handles. The hall tree bench has a simple rectangular shape with some decorative carving - scrollwork, floral designs and pillars at the back of the bench. |
